Managing Director of North Berwyn Park District’s 16th Street Theater
Seeking a Managing Director (MD) who will partner with the Artistic Director (AD) to implement the vision and operations of North Berwyn Park District’s 16th Street Theater. This is a full-time, salaried position to begin immediately. Responsibilities of the MD will be carried out at 16th Street Theater, 6420 16th Street and 1619 Wesley Ave in Berwyn, IL.
16th Street Theater is a 60-seat, Equity theater located in Berwyn producing 4 new plays per year, plus readings, events and outreach programming. A program of the North Berwyn Park District, 16th Street exists to tell the stories of all in our community. The 16th Street Theater NFP is a 501(c)3 corporation incorporated to 1) maintain the financial solvency of 16th Street by lessening the burden on government and to 2) ensure 16th Street upholds it mission as an artistic public forum for the people Berwyn and its neighboring communities and the multiplicity of races, languages, abilities, and cultural identities they represent. 16th Street is committed to inclusivity, professionalism, affordability, and the engagement of the community we serve.
The MD will report to the AD in running all aspects of the theater, both day-to-day and strategic. The MD is expected to work both autonomously and collaboratively. The MD must be both a creative and highly organized individual with a big picture focus as well as great attention to detail. The MD is responsible for income generation with a focus on finance, development, production management and education. Salary for the 32 hr/week position is $35,000, plus pension and health.
This is an exciting time for growth at 16th Street as the North Berwyn Park District embarks upon building a new performing arts center. The MD will be instrumental in leading expanded education and community programming. Berwyn is home to a large Spanish-speaking community. Those fluent in Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Contracting of artists and Production Management;
Carrying out development activities;
Carrying out administrative operations, including supervising the box office manager;
Implementing education and community outreach programs;
Acting as a representative and advocate of 16th Street with government agencies, community and local business groups and other arts organizations
Qualifications. Those applying must:
Support the mission of North Berwyn Park District’s 16th Street Theater as a professional theater for the community;
Exhibit excellent communication (both written and oral) skills;
Be proficient in Word, Excel, and be proficient in, or able to quickly learn, financial software such as Quick Books;
Have experience working in the arts as an artist, an administrator or both;
Demonstrate a strong work ethic, stamina, passion, along with a positive attitude;
Possess the confidence to be in a non-profit theater leadership position;
Those applying ideally will possess experience in or have confidence required to succeed in:
Development activities and Arts Education;
Working with park district, artists, students and volunteers;
Data and financial management;
Box Office software such as TOTAL INFO;
The arts and Chicago theater.
