“Filmer has been waiting years to get this blizzard to her stage. She was an admired local theater fixture even before opening the 16th Street Theater in 2007. There she has produced nearly 50 new plays, most of which she has directed. It was named 2009’s Best Emerging Theater Company by the Chicago Reader, and among the shows she directed (adapted and produced as well) were a quartet of plays by local artist Tony Fitzpatrick, who says of her, ‘Ann has immense respect for the written word. She is also gentle and forceful in her direction and a big believer in understatement and compassion.’ ”
